Stylized Character | Inspired by Concept Art (2024)

Sometimes it’s refreshing to step away from production work and create something purely for the love of stylized characters.

This project was a great chance to explore bold shapes, exaggerated proportions, and clean, appealing design, while pushing my sculpting workflow in Maya and ZBrush. The character is based on an original concept by the talented Evgeny Yurichev, whose style immediately caught my attention and inspired me to bring it to life in 3D.

While staying true to the spirit of the original concept, I made a deliberate choice to soften and round out some of the shapes, giving the character a slightly friendlier and more approachable feel that better suited the direction I wanted to take.

The character was developed with real-time game production in mind. It is fully optimized and ready to be integrated into a game engine, with clean topology, proper UVs, and a rig-friendly structure, making it ready for rigging and animation.

Hope you enjoy him as much as I enjoyed creating it!

Project Details:-
Character: ~60,000 triangles, 3 × 4K texture sets
Axe: ~3,300 triangles, 1 × 4K texture set
Software: Maya, ZBrush, Substance 3D Painter, Marmoset Toolbag, Photoshop

PS: I know there are a few things I could improve, especially in the baking stage. However, I really wanted to finish this project quickly and move on to the next one, so I decided not to spend too much time fixing minor issues.
